Weaving Clinics

Need help with your table loom or figuring out warping?

Cost for each clinic is $95.

These classes will be scheduled when we have two or more people interested in a particular class. They will be scheduled on a Saturday or Sunday to suit and will be held in our weaving studio at 400 Leland Ave, Plainfield, NJ. Classes are open to adults 18 years and older. 

Table Loom Clinic  -  Bring in your table loom. We'll evaluate, make adjustments, and create a small warp with the direct-warping method.

After looking at your table loom, we may tighten, sand, wax, tie up, etc., as needed to get your loom in working order as best we can. We will then tie on a short warp and do a little weaving to test all is in working order.

All materials supplied except your own table loom that you bring to class.

Winding a Warp Clinic  -  Learn how to calculate your warp, methods of winding and counting, how to tie up and different warping board options.

This clinic is suitable for people who would like to learn or brush up on winding a warp for a table or floor loom.

We will discuss how to calculate the amount of warp needed for a project, what you need for equipment, winding a warp on a warping board, how to make a cross, how to count it, and tie it off.   We will also see methods for using a paddle and using a barrel warping mill.

All materials supplied.

Warping Clinic - Learn the warping methods and when best to use what.

This clinic is best taken after the "Winding a Warp" clinic or if you have already mastered those tasks. There will be a review of only a few of the points from that clinic.

We will discuss yarn choices, when to do direct warping or front-to-back or back-to-front. We'll then sample each of those warping methods on looms in the studio and discuss best practices.

Expected class schedule:

• Bring your own lunch and beverages; tea and instant coffee are available in the studio.
• Arrive at the studio anytime after 9 am, enter through the We Like Yarn shop under the Fleck Knitwear sign.
• Free parking in front of the shop on Leland Ave.
• Class to start at 9:30 am and finish up on Saturday around 4 pm.
